HIGHWAY ACROSS AFRICA
Performance Outcome: Explains a local, regional, and/or global issue; poses a specific researchable question on the issue that requires social science investigation; and explains its significance to the global community.
Description: In my freshman Geography class, we were tasked to create a highway across Africa that could successfully take people to their destination while avoiding conflict, disease, and harsh environments/land forms. Each group created a poster that shows the "ideal" highway route through Africa. Each highway was designed to keep people as safe as possible while also getting them where they need to go. We used prior knowledge and research to determine the counties the highway would potentially go through. My group chose to start the highway in Tripoli, Libya and staying along the West Coast till Central Africa. When the highway reached central Africa it crossed over to the Southeast Coast till it ended in Cape Town, South Africa. We chose this route because it would go through the most popular places while avoiding the most dangerous counties. Our plan will be effective because it could successfully avoid most harsh climates and land forms. Although this would be really expensive in the real world, it would help the economy of Africa a great deal.

Reflection: This project helped me better understand Africa by making me realize that it has cities and some modern things. Before this project, I thought all of Africa was desert with wild animals everywhere but now i understand that there are many different environments. I think the most pressing issues that must be faced is better infrastructure, access to water, and better technology. I think with all of these things, many of the countries in Africa would become more developed.
